- Historical sites of the Korean Provisional Government
The Korean Provisional Government arrived in Chongqing in September 1940. The Chongqing period the most active period of the independence movement’s 27 year history. The first headquarters in Chongqing was in Yangliujie and the second one was in Shibanjie. Both buildings were destroyed by Japanese bombings. Remains of the third headquarters are at 1 Wushiye-xiang, the final location of the office. In 1991, this building was to be demolished, but was preserved due to the efforts of the Investigation Team of Remains of the Korean Liberation Army. In 1994, the Independence Hall of Korea and the Chongqing branch of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries agreed on the reconstruction of the building. In August 1995, a memorial hall was opened commemorating the 50th anniversary of Korean liberation. Date: January 1945 - November 1945 Address: 38 Lianhuachi, Yuzhong-qu, Chongqing-shi
